My flyer for the board candidate public forum

I will make copies and attempt to distribute them to participants today.

As the senior role models of the student standards of conduct and competence, and as the senior public servants in the public schools,

should board members be expected to tell the truth?

Should they promise to present themselves personally
to answer every legitimate question about the administration of
public power and resources in the APS?

Should they promise to respond to every legitimate question
about public resources, and about their public service?

Should they promise to respond candidly, forthrightly and honestly?

If we really want our children to embrace honor and courage and character, someone has to show them what it looks like.

We can’t just tell our children about George Washington and the cherry tree; someone has to show them what it looks like.

Upton Sinclair pointed out that;
we should not be so worried that our children are not listening to us; as we should be worried that they are watching us.

Someone has to show students and staff what it looks like to tell the truth.

Should school board members be required to promise
to tell the truth according to the same standards that they enforce up students?

Should the leadership of the APS be held honestly accountable
as role models of the student standards of conduct and competence?

Should they at the very least, explain in words a student can
understand, why students are accountable to a nationally recognized, accepted and respected code of ethical conduct;
and administrators and board members are not?

Should administrators and board members replace the language
that they removed from their own standards of conduct,
the language which used to read;

In no case shall the standard of conduct for an adult
be lower than the standards of conduct for students.

"Do as I say, not as I do."
Right, is that what they are saying?

Or is it MEANER, like:
"Hey, kid, we will be screwing our secretaries in air conditioned comfort while you try to learn in a hot classroom with 1970s technology and really low paid teachers. HA HA!"

Just wondering.
