House OKs Open Meetings Bill, 66-0

The Senate? yet to be seen.

According to the Journal this morning, link,
there are some powerful arguments against;

1. "A chief concern is that opening up conference committee meetings would drive the Legislature's decision-making process underground, said Senate Minority Leader Stuart Ingle, R-Portales"

2. "Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez, D-Belen, told reporters last week that he remains opposed to the idea “unless somebody really shows me a compelling reason of why they should be opened up.”

3. "Senate President Pro Tem Tim Jennings, D-Roswell, told the Journal he'll oppose the idea of opening conference committees until other government branches are also required to deliberate in the public eye"

or in words that a child can understand;

1. You can't make us.
If the people pass a law that says we can't meet in
secret, we will ignore the law and meet in secret anyway.

2. You can't make me.
The expressed will of the people is not reason enough
for me to vote their will instead of my own.

3. It's just not fair! waa! waa! waa! link
