On keeping one's eye on the ball.

Imagine you see misconduct in progress. You get the attention
of someone in charge and say, look!, and point at the evidence.

The person in charge, instead of looking at the evidence,
turns to you and asks, Why are you telling me?
What are you accusing them of?
Do you have some motive for reporting this evidence?
Who do you bump fists with?
What political party do they belong to?

Are any of them wing nuts? ...?
