Open letter to the APS Board of Education

In particular, to APS Board Member Robert Lucero, on the
occasion of his umpteenth interruption of my opportunity to
exercise my right to petition my government by means of
speaking at a public forum during a meeting of
the Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education.

I have an incontrovertible right to ask legitimate questions
of board members and the the superintendent during the
public forum, during board meetings.

Neither you, nor any other board member has any right to
prevent me from doing so.

You have only the power to prevent me from doing so.

Though, you have made it abundantly clear that you have
the power, and the inclination to abuse that power for the
purpose of stifling dissent; you do not have the right;
nor are you in the right, when you do so.

The question is legitimate,

Are you willing to be held honestly accountable to the
standard of conduct that you established and enforce
upon students; even for the few hours a day that
you serve the public as the senior most role models of
the student standard of conduct?
I have a right to ask that question on the record.

You do not have the right to prevent me from asking it.

Doing so is an abuse of power; power that is not yours,
power which has temporarily entrusted to you
by its rightful owners; your constituents.

At most, you have only the right to refuse to answer.

A refusal which can only be explained by one or more
of just three reasons;
  1. the leadership of the APS are cowards, and or
  2. the leadership of the APS are corrupt, and or
  3. there is a legitimate reason for the refusal to answer;
a reason which neither I, nor anyone else can imagine,

a reason that apparently cannot be articulated to
stakeholders candidly, forthrightly, and honestly.

Stakeholders are expected to trust that the naked
abrogation of one of the most important of civil rights
by Paula Maes, Modrall, and the rest of the good ol' boys
that run the APS, is for a good and ethical reason;
which must be kept secret.

Good and ethical reasoning does not require secrecy.
On the contrary, it deserves as public an explanation as
can be given.

The power to abuse power without consequence,
corrupts absolutely.
Socrates (derived)

Kind sir, thanks for having it first, and for having it right. Mr Lopez, thank you also for whistle blowing, suffering through assaults, and then being completely ignored when it comes to credit. Time for a civil suit with Judge Judy!

Ched,
You really ought to take a lawyer in tow to smack Mr. Lucero down a few notches - or anyone else on the board that abuse that power.
Watching them on the news last night - smug arrogant group of idiots, who know nothing about education or running a business. When are their terms up? We need some retired educators to run for these positions.

I really wouldn't take Robert's rude remarks personally. He was just trying to protect Winston from big bad you. He was brown nosing Winston just like he has Beth and Linda. I guess he's just the "best boy" since he knows how to kiss up and does it at every opportunity. I'm tempted to move to the west side just to vote the little porker out!
