trouble concerning one of his major
political endorsements.

whether the AFSCME union members
actually support Chavez.

It has been reported that a number of union members had taken umbrage at Chavez's decision to no-show a mayoral forum that had been sponsored by the union. Chavez's no-show allowed him to continue the ruse surrounding his candidacy, that allows him to use his office to campaign without consequence.

According to Childress, AFSCME Political Director Carter Bundy
admitted that the endorsement was not based on any vote, but rather on the results of a telephone survey, even though the final results of that survey were reportedly not available at the time the endorsement was made.
