Trimming the fat from government.

To hear some tell it, if we just trimmed the fat from government; the overblown salaries, the unnecessary slots, there would be more than enough money saved to balance the budget.

I am on the side of; even if we trimmed all of the fat,
we wouldn't be anywhere near balancing the budget.

Realistically, the budget will be balanced by taking money out of the pockets and programs of the less politically influential, where the most of the money is being spent.

That bitter pill will be easier for them to swallow if they thought their sacrifices were being matched by the politically powerful politicians and public servants closer to the trough.

Fat must be trimmed, not so much from an economic stand point, but more from a perspective of simple fairness and fair play.

Though, if we can learn anything at all from history,
we can expect very little fat to be trimmed at the top.

Does anyone really expect that fat cat good ol' boys and girls
in Santa Fe and in APS' Twin Towers, are going to feel
the budget butcher's knife?
