Kate Nash reports, link, that the State Investment Office has lawyers assigned "... in part to help handle public records requests and subpoenas."
The original contract, worth $30,000, has been amended five times and is now worth $2.8 million, the records show. The record suggests that they are earning between $400 and $700 dollars an hour to suppress rather than surrender public records.
The most recent amendment says the company will "provide advice and assist with reviewing documentation and responding to subpoenas, requests and inquiries from regulators and other governmental agencies, and document requests made pursuant to public disclosure laws."
On the other hand, there are no $400 to $700 an hour lawyers assigned to help taxpayers find out what politicians and public servants are doing with their tax dollars.
