"Mr. Berry, "Tear down this wall"."

written in a comment on the backside of Eye on Albuquerque
link
.

The Eye is widely regarded as a source of information about the Albuquerque Police Department. Those who comment on the backside, represent that they are active and retired police officers. I don't know that for a fact, but it is a reasonable working supposition. Unless it is proved otherwise, I will continue to believe that there is a certain amount of truth being written there.

The idea that there is a "wall" that separates the people of Albuquerque from the real truth about what is going on in the leadership of the APD, is a recurring theme. Cover up is a widely expressed opinion.

Mayor elect Richard Berry has fielded questions about his intentions, by saying that it is too early to have intentions. He points to a need to gather information before he can make "informed" management decisions. He has expressed the need to talk to "department heads".

I hope that it is his intention to talk to the rank and file as well. And not just in the police department, but in every city department. Ideally, he would commission some kind of widespread impartial data gathering process; perhaps something as simple as a written survey.

If a significant number of the people who actually work in the police department, or in any other department of the city government think their leadership is incompetent or corrupt, the new mayor needs to deal with those issues.

He cannot simply take the word of department heads that their departments are functioning perfectly.
