One would suppose, I suppose, that given the circumstances
surrounding webcasting the legislature; the fights, the victories,
the promises, etc, the Special Session of the Legislature would
be webcast to stakeholders.
The truth; in the interim between the last session and this,
nothing has been done to bring the webcasting of the people's
business any closer to fruition. We will still have the same
crappy one camera, google earth view of the Senate, and who
knows what in the House, and in committee meetings in both
houses.
There is no reason that the New Mexico Legislature cannot
set the standard for the free world for open and transparent
deliberation of our interests, except that the "powers that be",
like doing business in secret from stakeholders, and really
have no intention of doing anything except being dragged
kicking and screaming into the future.
Even our self professed "leader" in ethics reform and open
government, Lt Gov Diane Denish, can point to nothing
she has done in the interim to move legislative webcasting
toward the state of the art, and she is the President of the
Senate.
The fight is not over; not by a long shot.
