A reader recently wondered, why Tom Savage still has a job.
It was Savage's job to oversee the APS PoliceSo why does he still have a job?
Department, when the scandal broke there,
and it has been Tom Savage's job to oversee
the APS Finance Department, which has now
quietly lost track of millions of tax dollars.
If you look up good ol' boy in any dictionary,
you will find Tom Savage's picture.
And good ol' boys simply don't loose their jobs
over screw ups.
In particular they don't loose their jobs
if they are any good at all at keeping the details secret
from stakeholders.
When Tom Savage was told in the nineties that
stakeholders have a right to know the truth about
what is going on in their schools, Tom Savage
said he wasn't going to tell the truth in deference
to local realtors.
When the scandal was breaking in the APS Police Dept,
the first official act of superintendent Tom Savage
was to order APS employees to keep their mouths shut.
And now, with a scandal involving the failure to keep
records on the spending of millions of tax dollars;
in a department overseen by Tom Savage, he and
the leadership of the APS have managed to keep
the whole scandal of the incompetence and corruption
in the APS Financial Department "secret" from the public.
Tom Savage still has his job because,
from the perspective of the leadership of the APS,
Tom Savage is not a screw up, he is in fact doing
a great job.

He's afraid of realtors? Or, perhaps, he was awarded for keeping quite?
Who can trust anything this guy says after all the crap he's pulled in his years at APS.
A better questions is... how did he last so long and earn so much?

May Tom Savage rot in a special Hell for people whose morals are for sale. He really does have a knack for being connected to every crooked asshole in APS.
I tested Tom and found him lacking morally. He knew his subordinates were committing felonies and did nothing. Perhaps some fine investigator could charge him with conspiracy after they audit him with a Sarbanes-Oxley style financial assessment.
But really, may Savage rot for his crimes against the people of Albuquerque, and the trust we give him to do his job. I am not one to put the wrath of the Lord on people, except when I feel it is morally justified.
May Yahweh rain lightning upon Tom Savage, and send micro-meteorites from the Moon to end his pitiful and morally corrupt waste of a life.
If you are reading this Tom - you know I speak the truth. Just look at the emails we sent back and forth. You are an idiot or corrupt, and I think you are pretty smart, Tom.
You duplicitous windbag - if it were not illegal I would seriously challenge you to a public duel of fisticuffs. And Danny Moon and Gil Lovato too, those guys are worse than you, but not by much.
You are a co-conspirator, Tom, and if you profited illegally with kickbacks, or got "free" building materials from Danny? Yup, just as guilty.

This is why many good teachers leave APS. They come across someone likes this in charge, and figure it's time to go elsewhere.
I've thought that myself many times.
So much of the education system in this country is run by business and political intrests. Follow the money. It has not worked.
What would the system look like if education professionals, (teachers) ran it? Would one of them care about the local chamber of comerce or real estate professional more than educating the kids? Probably not. Which means, the kids are educated, test scores go up, chamber and realestate agents are happy.

And Paula Maes will allow no audit that might hold Tom Savage accountable?
I think chuncky the elephant would say that PAula and Tom S. better play nice, or they'll end up hurting each other... aka..they both have to protect each other's secrets, and their own.
I would bet that Tom and Paula have shared the same peanut butter can on some occasions in the past!
I have to wonder...is that Tom savage thing, or is that an APS thing?
LEt's look on down the line... does Tim Whalen lie about Manzano's safety and security? Probably.
Did Grace Brown misrepresent Cibila High's reputation? Probably.
Anytime an administrator lies to the public/parents, there should be definite and harsh consewuaences.
At the worst, s/he could say" No comment", which, at least, is not lying!
