For fifteen years, the Pillars of Character Counts! have been
standards without a role model.
Richard Romero just stepped up.
At a news conference today at Wilson Middle School,
I asked the Senator if he was willing to hold himself honestly
accountable to a higher standard of conduct than the law,
specifically; the Pillars of Character Counts!
The Pillars are a nationally recognized, accepted, and
respected code of ethical conduct. link
They also happen to be
the APS Student Standards of Conduct.
He said yes.
He assumed a mantle that even the senior most role models
in leadership of the APS will not bear.
So what? What difference does it make?
Every other politician and public servant is accountable only
to the law; the lowest acceptable standard of conduct.
The standard for truth telling under the law is; don't tell lies.
According to the Pillars of Character Counts!,
the standard for truth telling is; tell the truth.
"Not lying" has perpetuated a culture of corruption that
has lasted for centuries.
"Telling the truth" will end it, once and for all.
And finally, the students in the APS will have a role model
to look up to, someone who will show them what it looks
like to
"model and promote the Pillars of Character Counts!"
