The meaning of "good ol' boy" in New Mexico

There are parts of the country where, if someone refers to you
as a good ol' boy, you take it as a compliment.

In New Mexico, or any other state with a culture of corruption,
it means;

a powerful person who abuses his power by excepting
himself from any honest accountability to meaningful
standards of conduct and competence, and

in the process betrays the public trust; deliberately, and
with malice and fore thought,
and it is not a compliment.

For example;

Governor Bill Richardson,
or

Mayor Marty Chavez, or

UNM President David Schmidly,
or

APS Superintendent,
Winston Brooks,

to name just a few right off the top of my head.
