The Journal reported on a vote taken by the school board link
on the subject of APS' plan to shame children into forcing their
parents to pay their lunch tab.
One board member who voted to continue the plan,
argued that the "poor" line could be, would be,
kept secret from other students.
I wondered aloud, how much time this person had spent
on an elementary or middle school campus.
Tell me about any embarrassing tidbit about any elementary
or middle schooler that is not widespread knowledge by the
end of the first recess.
Whatever the best solution is; it cannot seriously depend on
the hope that children's secrets will be kept and that they will
not be stigmatized.
Again, I would have to suggest, that of all the places where
money could be saved, why start here? where there lies
the greatest potential for embarrassing innocent children.
Voting in favor of cheese sandwiches; Barela, Esquivel, Lucero, and Maes.
Voting against; Facio, Griego, and Martin.
