I have received the following news tip;
"Our school was told on the Thursday inservice that
APS is now a district under state restructure-1.
Our principal told us this was not news that was
"out there yet", and they wanted to hear it internally first.
What this seems to mean is that an individual school's
compliance with NCLB doesn't determine if they will be
in "safe harbor" or restructured anymore; it means all APS
schools are now under the restructure umbrella, and this
is a secondary step to the State of New Mexico
taking over APS schools."
... could it really happen? Word is that the state doesn't
have a take-over unit in place, doesn't have approved
protocol, and some say the state legislation has not been
presented nor passed for this to occur.
It would explain the urgency of RGHS and EPMS to be
resolved immediately.
Last year, and soon to begin this semester, the state comes into most APS schools and demands a mountain of papers that include EPPS statement, mission statement, department exams w/ results, graphs, charts, etc....
To my knowledge, student discipline, attendance and classroom cleanliness and Character Counts! is not discussed nor documentation requested.
1 comment:
There are currently 34 districts under NM State restructuring.
The process, planning and basic protocol is available at:
http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:IrYyuj85ae0J:www.ped.state.nm.us/div/psb/dl08/Superintendent%27s%2520Presentation%2520on%2520NCLB%2520and%2520Frameworkfinal9%252026%252007final.ppt+New+Mexico+district+state+restructure&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us
HOWEVER, (again), discipline and absenteeism and parental responsibilities are not addressed as part of "the problem" in this state document/presentation.
