"Public schools are where accountability goes to die."

The Journal has not yet provided a link to the essay under this title, by John Rosemond. You should go find a copy of the Journal so you can read it. It's on page D2. (Update; I have been forwarded a link.)

The gist of it is, the breakdown of discipline in public schools. APS is of course, suffering from the same breakdown. You cannot find any statistics to support that allegation, but only because the leadership of the APS refuses to gather them.

Based on my 25 years of experience as a teacher; the lack of discipline; in particular the failure to deal with chronically disruptive students, is one of the greatest obstacles to educational success and the most carefully hidden.

The administration will not gather empirical evidence of the failure to maintain order on campuses or in classrooms, because the responsibility for the failure falls upon their shoulders.
