Lawerence Rael gets a freebee

Blogger Monahan reports this morning that political candidate Lawrence Rael has appeared on TV;

One of the light guv candidates is already on TV. No, Lawrence Rael, has not bought political spots, but he is being spotted on ABQ cable TV ... featured prominently in the commercial with his name flashed on the screen.

The commercials were to promote Rail Runner safety.

It is a fair question to ask; what do his face and his name have to do with Rail Runner safety?

There are two possibilities; one, that it never occurred to him that being seen on TV would advance his political aspirations, or
two, it did occur to him, and he went ahead and cut the commercial anyway.

There are those who would question the ethics of a public servant using his office to promote his candidacy.

Which is exactly why he should not be doing it.

He created the appearance of impropriety and, damage
was done. Those who believe this is an ethical lapse,
have that much less faith in their state government,
than they had before.

While all of this is "perfectly legal", Rael, in an interview
with Peter St Cyr, link, promised voters, he would hold
himself accountable as a role model for children,
of accountability a higher standard of conduct than "the law".
