Deeply disappointed, I was

The first statewide candidate to lay a plan on the table to end
the culture of corruption in Santa Fe; Sheriff Greg Solano
stepped in a political cow pie yesterday. He used his office to
promote the candidacy of his under sheriff.
SF Reeper, link, Haussamen, link, perhaps others I missed.

Although in the overall scheme of things, this was no a huge
gaff, one finds themselves at the top of a very slippery slope
when they begin talking about big and small ethical lapses.

That said, I would argue, there is a difference between careless
and deliberate lapses. Not that careless lapses are completely
excused.

To his credit, Solano stepped up and took the heat.
He took his swats.

It is also worth pointing out that, if the
Ethics Commission
that the Sheriff
is proposing, actually existed, a complaint
over this issue could be filed there,
if anyone actually thought it needed to be
pushed that hard, and he would be held
accountable under the law, under a system
over which he would have no undue influence.

And also, that not one of his opponents has a reform plan as comprehensive as Solano's, nor one up on the internet, subject to critical review.
