Why can't the County fire Dwight Dias?

Dwight Dias is a program manager at the MATS facility; the site of the Dantis nepotism scandal. He faces termination for failing to report allegations of misconduct by an employee, Jamie Dantis, who happens to be the son of Deputy County Manager John Dantis.

County Manager Thaddeus Lucero has said Dias was an "utter failure" as a manager, and further that he had lied to him about Jaime Dantis' employment problems.

He has been through the firing process, yet has not been fired. Why?

County Spokesperson, Liz Hamm says the County is "working through issues" and "trying to get paper work done". In the meantime, Dias is drawing full salary while on "paid vacation"; otherwise known as "administrative leave".

Usually, when a bureaucracy cannot fire an employee, it is because the employee knows where some bodies are buried. The unstated threat is; "go ahead, start a firing procedure where I get a chance to talk, and I will spill my guts." So rather that suffer the consequences of their corruption or incompetence, the good ol' boys just keep the subordinate on paid leave until the situation resolves itself in some other way.

The supposition that there is an effort afoot to hide some inconvenient truth, is underscored by the fact that Lucero is still hiding an independent investigation of the circumstances of the scandal.

So until someone comes up with a better explanation of the County's inability to fire an employee who has earned a firing,
it is because they need to keep him quiet.

They get away with it because they have provided us with
nothing we can do about it.
