APD stonewalls on morale

Please read this post (link) on a blog called Eye on Albuquerque. In particular, read the comments.

A bunch of people who claim to know, claim that there is incompetence and corruption in the leadership of the Albuquerque Police Department. They claim that as a result, morale in the department is very low.

If all of this is true; the safety of the community as being affected. Community members have a right to know the truth.

If it is not true; why won't the leadership of the APD say so?

Firing of Dispatcher Reversed

By Andrea Schoellkopf
Journal Staff Writer
An Albuquerque police dispatcher, criticized for his advice to the principal of Atrisco Elementary, won the appeal of his firing.
He then promptly resigned.
Gary Gaffney had been with Albuquerque Public Schools for four months when he allegedly advised Principal Linda Corona to return to a substitute teacher a video camera containing footage of a student's legs and skirt.
An APS disciplinary committee fired Gaffney Oct. 1 from his $24,780-a-year job, and last week, the same committee overturned the dismissal after he appealed, APS spokeswoman Monica Armenta said Monday.
Gaffney then backdated his resignation to Oct. 1.
"He appealed his dismissal, it was overturned, and he resigned," Armenta said. Gaffney did not ask for back pay, she said.
He had been on paid leave for 16 days, earning $1,525.
The substitute teacher, Robert Ashley, is being held at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center on a $200,000 cash-only bond on felony charges of child abuse and child voyeurism.
Two parents of one of Ashley's former students have filed a civil lawsuit against APS for damages in excess of $25,000.
