What the kids at RGHS really need is

to learn how to learn.

What we need to do,
is to offer them the opportunity to learn how to learn.

Denying them the opportunity to learn about
whatever it is that they want to learn about;

flies in the face of the logic of;

you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

It is naive to suppose that you can march 30 kids
in five columns of six,
lockstep through 12 years of curriculum that pays almost no
notice to the fact that much of it is not intrinsically motivating.

It is taught at the absolute expense of every other topic that is.

You can beat a horse, to make it move.
You cannot beat it enough,
to make it want to.

Administrators are fond of saying;

there is no child who cannot learn.

In fact, there is;
any child who does not want to learn.

There is a huge difference between memorizing,
which any child can be beaten into doing, and learning.

Learning is memorization, plus understanding.

A child who is not listening,
will never understand.

A child who is not listening.
will never learn.
