Subsequent to the Houston training, the board is apparently
of a mind to draw more distinct lines between their responsibilities as board members, and the responsibilities of the superintendent.
Our board, some members more than others, has a tendency to involve itself inappropriately in the business of administration. Their job is to hire a superintendent, not do the work of a superintendent.
Take for example, the struggle between the teaching assistants and the district. It is a management issue; it is Winston Brooks responsibility to settle the dispute. Yet Robert Lucero has managed to insert himself into the mix, again finding a way to get on TV to voice his opinion. He has even been accused of starting the rumor of a planned "sick out" to be staged by the assistants.
Line drawing on respective responsibilities seems prudent, and overdue.
