Candidates for APS District 7 have until noon

Candidates for Gordy Rowe's empty board seat have until
noon today to place their names into contention. link

There was no coverage in the Journal this morning, which
makes it formally too late for them to fulfill their very real
obligation to the community to advertise the slot, the process,
and the issues surrounding the filling of the empty seat.

The board has still offered no good and ethical justification
for filling the empty seat except by election, only a few months
distant.

There is a board training scheduled for October. We have
been told nothing about the training by Monica Armenta or
by anyone in the $1M a year "communications" division;
apparently the training is a secret.

Gordy Rowe, I think, said something about the fact that the
new board member would be appointed in time to attend
the training. Logic underscores the point that, if the board
was really concerned about "all" board member attending the
training, the training would be undertaken after the February
school board elections where four seats, including the one they
are unnecessarily filling, will come up for "re-election".

Apparently, the board expects that Paula Maes/Modrall,
Berna Facio, Gordy Rowe's replacement, and
Mary Lee Martin
will be re-elected rather automatically.

And they probably will.

The Journal will offer as much coverage of the February
election as they have of this appointment; none.

Except that a day or two after the election, we will be treated
to an editorial harrumph about how Albuquerqueans should
be ashamed of the poor turn out for the election.

We may even hear from them next week, about what a
shame it is that only one candidate applied for the open
seat.

Shame on all of these people.

You nailed it right on the head!
Actually, maybe it's more on the fault of the media. It's up to them if they find it worth it - news worthy enough. APS ought to stop relying on the media to voluntarily print information, and find money in Admin. pockets to post their own ads!
